Cursed Earth Explorers

Leaving the city and taking an excursion into the Cursed Earth today.

Instead of gang members, judges or victims, here we have a couple of intrepid explorers of the Cursed Earth.  Perhaps they are Helltrekkers, or missionaries or bored college professors...  Perhaps members of the Mega City Geographical Society.

Both models are from Pulp Figures.

Life has gotten in the way of a steady painting schedule and, for a while at least, I may not be able to paint as often as I want.

Master and Servant

This robotic butler is from Copplestone Castings.

As usual, it's well sculpted, cast and executed.

This next one is from Hydra.

He lacks... animation and he's missing a finger due to miscast, but I like him nonetheless.

Getting Medieval

Lately, I have had a slight interest in medieval warfare.  I suppose it is fitting, then, that these two models got painted next.

This is another of the Warlord/Mongoose civilians for Judge Dredd.  When Warlord returns to Dredd, I hope they produce more civilians.

She's got a real Robin Hood vibe going.  I painted her shoes red to add a bit of Wizard of Oz.

This guy is from Blue Moon.  He's playing some sort of stringed instrument.

The yellow on his tunic didn't come out as well as I wanted, but I'm not so crazy about the model anyway.

Mega Simps

Just in time for Halloween, a couple of costumed cits.

Citizens of Mega City One are incredibly fashion conscience.  Many of them rush to keep up with the latest fads and it's not easy...

While they certainly stand out in a crowd, there's nothing about these guys that would be considered abnormal.  They are just regular people adapting to their irregular environment.

Both of these are from Warlord/Mongoose.  They released two packs of three models each and I wish they had produced more.

Space Age Fashions

Hydra Miniatures came out with Jetsons-inspired civilians last month and I jumped on ordering them right away.

They are perfect for Mega City One!

My photography and lighting are never right.  Below shows her against a different backdrop (jeans) and lighting.

This was the first one that I painted and this color scheme was what I envisioned as soon as I held the miniature in my hand.

Solar eclipse?

Some of the detail is a little shallow in the set as a whole, although not as much on these two.

The face on this one is sculpted a little weird to me, she almost looks alien.

All in all, I'm happy I bought these and will be painting more.
They were fun and easy to do.

Rent-A-Cop

This guy is from Foundry (I think).  He's pretty much a tall guy in a suit, with a gun.

He had a chunk of flash on his forehead that I left and painted metallic.  I figured it makes him look cyberized.

This next one is also from Foundry (I'm sure of that).  Cops don't fit into Judge Dredd's world (there were some early strips that featured police as well as judges, but they quickly disappeared from the scene).

A uniform like that could easily be for a private security guard, though.  This is what I had in mind for this guy.  Just the sort of character that patrols a building and ends up being victim-of-the-week just for trying to put food on his table.

Now I feel bad for him and his soon-to-be orphaned children.

The Unsullied (or Unpainted...)

And the partially completed...

I've been sharing what has been completed so far, but let's see what is to come.

There are the boxed sets:

And the blister packs:

There's a Pat Wagon hiding to the right

The loose gooses:

The assembled Heavy Metal Kids:

The Manta waiting for a paint job:

Those in transit:

And the yet to be purchased:

[So many lovely miniatures out there in the world!]

Not Fast Enough

These casualties are from JohnnyBorg and, I believe, are no longer available (unfortunately).

I actually had one of them painted for a couple of months and was going to post pictures when I finished up Judge Fear, but Fear got pushed aside for other models and so I went ahead and painted another victim to pair them up.

They are both very small for 28mm, but they will work well enough.

Witnesses

Warlord/Mongoose release 6 Mega-City One civilians, including this one.
Cits were known for all sorts of outrageous fashion trends, as displayed here.

I mounted her off center on the base, unintentionally.
It makes he a little unbalanced - she's not the lightest model.

The second civilian is from Blue Moon and came with an integral base.
The base looks like it is a transition from hardwood floors to carpet, so that is what I aimed for.

Dressed more conservatively than her friend above, I am reminded of Frau Blucher (cue whinnying).

Flying Wurms

Crawling Chaos (the blue faction) has two Hunting Horror monsters available to summon.

These are the faction's strongest monsters.  They get the benefit of moving two spaces, like all of Crawling Chaos' units.  The faction can obtain the upgrade that allows Hunting Horrors to move to the location of a battle before the fighting begins.

These are pretty large and cool looking monsters.  I was going to go for a brownish paint scheme.  A lot of people that paint these miniatures do a color theme around the faction color to make them more easily identifiable during the game.  I decided to do a different approach, by putting each faction's color in the base of the model's (except for the cultists, who get it on their clothing instead).
When I was researching how these were described in the fiction, they were all black and I was somewhat disappointed in that.  I thought, How many all black monsters are there in thee Mythos.  I want color.  I may start deviating more from the "official" descriptions of these, because a board of nothing but black monsters is a bit boring and not so much fun to paint.
