I have been busy lately with holiday fun and misplacing my camera. Hopefully, I will be back to regularly updating soon.
Here's to a wonderful 2016 for all of us.

Juve is in the Heart
Despite being two nasty miscreants, these are nice models.
This pimpin' punk is from the Judge Dredd line (Warlord/Mongoose) and came in the starter set.
This heavy-packin' mama is from Wargames Foundry.

The Two Towers
One of the Burn In Designs buildings that I found most interesting is the office building that has 'two towers' with a connecting piece in the center. There are actually two such buildings -- today I'm showing off the smaller one.
Here it is sanded and filled. Like the other Burn In Designs buildings, this one is mdf.
On on of the towers I put a spare bit of mdf to serve as a HVAC unit. It's flat and so should allow for the impression of detail while still allowing large based models to have some stability.
I added some styrene strip trim to the tower roofs. It looks cleaner like this.
In the middle section I added thicker styrene strips along the edges. I envision that the center section would be accessible to pedestrians.
I included mdf brick "planters". I originally planed to do a roof-top garden type setup there, but removed many additions to facilitate the bases of the mecha models.
The bases are either 40mm or 50mm wide. The creator of the building had this game in mind when designing it and his planning shows.
The painted and window-covered building...
I left the large entrances in the center of the building open. I can see possibly having a driveway or even street passing through there.
Added flowering plants. I like it.
I've been having fun with this project. Although I've focused more on Judge Dredd lately, I haven't abandoned this one. I enjoy slowly building up my city, putting together the kits and figuring out practical ways to enhance the way they look while still maintaining their gaming-utility.
Although I have been also building the models and painting them, my main focus for this project has been terrain-first. It's a new approach to me.

Two by Two, Hair of Blue
These gangers are from Foundry and Warlord/Mongoose.
Not really much to write about them, I think they speak for themselves.

A Cult Above the Rest
Hooded cultists are a broadly useful miniature type that can be placed in just about any modern or sci-fiction setting with ease.
These are cultists from Northstar, part of the In Her Majesty's Name range, which is a Victorian-themed sci fi game.
They are well cast and sculpted. Being mostly robes with feet, they are fast and easy to paint.

He's a Regular Riot
These two Mongoose/Warlord judges are an improvement over the street judge featured previously on this blog.
Riot Judges specialize in riot control (as one might guess).
This miniature is a much better sculpt than some of the others, closer in quality to the Wargames Foundry Dredd that I have painted up.
The casting quality is on par with what I've come to expect from Warlord, which is to say decent but not great. This guy had some mold slippage that is still evident in places on the model.
This second model isn't bad, either, although it's got some sculpting oddities.
He's got two lawgivers and looks suitably intimidating. Some of the uniform parts, such as the badge on his chest, belt pouches and device on his helmet could have better implied detailing, while the guns don't quite match each other (but close enough that it will hardly be noticed.
The sculptor tried to convey musculature under his uniform on his torso, but it ends up looking unnatural.
Not to be too down on this guy, because I don't think he is all that bad looking overall, but I'm also not a big fan of feet resting on things as poses for miniatures. Here his foot is on a skull of some kind.
All-in-all, a good pair of Justice Department judges.

Murder, Incorporated
These two will make good corporate/mafia enforcer types.
The first one is a Copplestone Castings model that you may have recognized from some earlier posts.
Copplestone's models are wonderfully sculpted with well-defined features that make them easy to paint.
The second one is from Wargames Foundry. When I was photographing her it showed her face having a rough surface. This isn't immediately realized when looking at her 'in the flesh' and it took me by surprise.

Fleur de Lease
I've been in a miniature painting, rather than building painting, mood. But I did manage to finish off another couple of GameCraft acrylic houses.
In one of those "duh" moments I realized I could have been using L-shaped styrene strips on the building corners to hide the joints and increase strength.
One of my ideas for enhancing these was to add window boxes. For these I used quarter round strips.
My balsa strip reserve was getting short, so on these buildings the chimneys don't go all the way to the ground. I don't think it will be too noticeable.
Basing material was used to add plants to the planters.

Dredd 3D
This time around I present two gangers.
You funny. |
This guy is a Warlord/Mongoose ganger. I like him a lot, he's got this goofy look to him that appeals to me. His clothing places him squarely in Mega-City One.
Inspired by Back to the Future, I intended to have him wearing 3D glasses. Of course, I gave him red and green instead of red and blue lenses. I wonder if anyone will pick up on that.
This next trouble maker is from Wargames Foundry.
You! Yeah, you, the little guy! I'm talking to you. |
He has a mold line over his eye that I wasn't confident in my ability to remove it well, so I left it there to be a scar-looking thing.
His legs are a little wide, but this isn't so noticeable due to his long coat. His right foot is also somewhat small.
A nice brawler for a bunch of street toughs...
